Grasshoppers

Building children’s confidence and exploration skills within an safe and secure environment.

Our Grasshoppers, aged 1-2 year olds, are incredibly busy developing their physical and language skills. It is an age of big transition, starting to see themselves as individuals with their own interests and we support them on this journey.

Children in this room engage in lots of open-ended play, accessing free flow between inside and out, and lots of opportunities for messy and sensory play. They enjoy role playing in our toy kitchen, sharing stories in our quiet corner, and mark making activities, as well as practising our gross motor skills in the covered all weather outdoor area.

Weekly Jo Jingles music and movement sessions, develop their confidence, co-ordination and social skills. We plan activities following the Early Years Foundation Stage, and using a combination of ‘theme’ based and ‘in the moment’ planning based on child’s interests and next steps.

Children build their independence skills by sitting at a table for meal times, and can get that all important rest in our Grasshopper’s sleep room. We are introducing our golden rules during their time in this room, and starting to introduce the concept of turn taking with resources.
